Irwin Law Publisher has published a new book entitled From “Radical Extremism” to “Balanced Copyright”: Canadian Copyright and the Digital Agenda”.

Senator the Hon Nick Sherry, Minister of Small Business gave an address re Australia-Arab States cooperation. His spoke about the strong and growing relationship between Australia and the Arab world.

Although I arrived in early morning of Saturday, 23 October 2010, I managed to attend Digitally Open: Innovation and Open Access Forum, held at Sharq Village, Doha Qatar. Here is below a summary of the event.

Sweet & Maxwell’s European Intellectual Property Review has published in its November 2010 Issue (32 (11) at 565-574),  a co- authored article written by Professor Brian Fitzgerald and me entitled “Copyright Law in the United Arab Emirates in the Digital Age”. 

Professor Tiw Wu from Columbia University law school, popularizer of the concept network neutrality in his paper Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination has written recently a new book entitled The Master Switch- The Rise and Fall of Information Empires.  The book will be released by KNOPF Publishers on 2 November 2010.

ictQATAR and Creative Commons are holding a one day forum in Qatar, Doha on 23 October 2010 discussing how innovation can thrive in the digital age through sharing and openness. The event will witness also a regional meeting for Creative Commons Arab World. I will provide a detailed report about this event as I am expected to attend it.

The Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) and the Arab Intellectual Property Mediation and Arbitration Society (AIPMAS) submitted on 28 September 2010 a proposal to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to be accredited as an Official Dispute Resolution Provider under the Unifrom Domian Dispute Resoluation Policy (UDRP).

I attended yesterday in Brisbane a public lecture for Richard M. Stallman, President of the Free Software Foundation entitled “Education across the Nation – Free Software in Ethics and in Practice”.

Under the patronage of king Abdullah II, the Arbitration Center for the Arab Federation for Protection of Intellectual Property is holding the World Arbitration Forum for Intellectual Property in the Dead Sea, Jordan on 24th -25th November 2010.

The UAE is the most connected country in the Arab World followed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to the Arab Advisors Group’s annually released Total Country Connectivity Measure (TCCM) report.
