The Public Prosecution Office (PPO) has prepared a draft law on combating internet crime, which will shortly be submitted to the Cabinet for final approval. The move was announced by Public Prosecutor Hamid Al-Othman, who said that such legislation is urgently needed, given the recent steep rise in the number of online crimes, reported Al Qabas.
He said that many such cases have been dropped since there are no articles of legislation covering such crimes or any specialist department to monitor and prosecute them. Al-Othman explained that the draft law contains 37 different categories of offense, including slandering religions, the Kuwaiti constitution or the person of the Amir, with each offense incurring different penalties such as fines or imprisonment.
