The Cabinet approved on 3rd August 2010 the first Cyber Crime Law in Jordan. The temporary law was issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and will take effect after 30 days of its issuance if approved by the king.
The law was prepared by the Jordanian law firm Khalifeh and Partners Lawyers and Legal Consultants. It was issued primarily to address a legal vacuum in new digital crimes that the Jordanian criminal law could not address effectively, and to provide trust over internet networks for internet users. The law was heavily criticised by Jordanian bloggers, website owners, the National Centre for Human Rights and the Committee to Protect Journalists
