Abstract:
This lecture provides an overview of the basics of intellectual property rights (IPRs) including patent, industrial design, copyright and trademarks. It discusses in particular the importance of IP to individuals (inventors, artists, consumers and researchers), universities, businesses and the national economy. It also examines the various IP laws in the UAE and how they work in practice. The lecture will be of interest to those who are looking to understand the fundamental principles of IP and ask questions that they might have in the future in relation to the subject.
